THE HELI-SKIING EXPERIENCE

When you think you have tried it all, and you were wrong.

While the summer has just begun and people are on their way to the beach, for the avid traveler, winter is actually on your mind. For the devoted lover of winter sports, Heli-skiing is something that everyone should experience at least once in their life. Switzerland, America and Alaska, Canada, France, Italy, and New Zealand host some of the best mountains in the world for skiing, and heli-skiing. While most heli-skiing operations are on government land, there are a few select destinations that are privately owned to give you the most incredible experience during your stay.

As much as I love skiing and snowboarding as the next enthusiast, at some of the best resorts in the world, the ski lift lines can really take away from the experience. For the world's elite a new form of skiing has taking off, and that is the heli-skiing experience.

Imagine being in New Zealand, waking up to the crisp mountain air on a private mountain property of 22,000 hectares, with your own chalet, and are now surrounded by a fresh blanket of powder from last night's snow. You walk outside on your private deck with your morning cup of coffee and look at the secluded mountains behind you, knowing these are yours for the day.

Taking a helicopter to the top of the mountain will already let your mind and body know that this is not your typical ski trip. As you step out, strap in, and take off, all you notice is the untouched powder glistening before your eyes as you float down the mountain. You smile at not having to check if there's a skier or snowboarder about to cut you off. Just you, maybe your friends and family, nature, and the picturesque landscape speeding by you as you make your way down to meet your private helicopter for another run. And the best part is getting in to the helicopter and doing it all over again, on different runs, until feeling like James Bond has tired you out. Considering you logged in significantly more runs than you would ever do in a traditional setting, a nice glass of champagne, a warm fire, and knowing that if you want, you never have to do the same runs ever again tomorrow as you make your own trails when you go heli-skiing.
